On behalf of the organizing team for the “Injury and Damage Biomechanics” symposium that will take place at the 2026 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) on November 8-12, 2026 in Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, we invite you to consider submitting a full conference paper or a technical presentation.
The 2026 Society of Engineering Science (SES) will be held on Oct. 11-14, 2026 in West Lafayette, IN. We are organizing the mini-symposium 2.4 - “Mechanically Engineered Biological Fate, Form, and Function (F3)”. You are invited to submit an abstract to our mini-symposium by May 1, 2026.

Unique opportunity to connect experimental, theoretical, and numerical know how in the description of biological tissues.
+ learn about the function of solids at large deformations, for example, used in soft robotics.
We develop a variationally consistent framework for chemo-elastic special Cosserat rods that incorporates a two-way chemo-mechanical coupling to accurately model large deformations in slender rods. This two-way coupling is particularly important to model stress-assisted diffusion for various metamaterial-based battery electrodes and soft robotics applications. Using the virtual power and energy minimization approach, we first derive coupled equilibrium equations in Lagrangian formulation applicable to three-dimensional chemo-elastic solids.
Bioinspired microstructure design simultaneously enhances strain-rate stiffening and toughening of composites, Qi, et al., Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2024
Novelty:
Propose and prove that microstructure significantly affects strain-rate dependent mechanical properties of composites, expanding the current knowledge that the strain-rate dependence is mostly due to material attributes.
The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) invites applications for up to ten open positions for independent research group leaders under the 2026 ČVUT Starting Grant (StG) scheme. The call is open to applicants in all research fields represented at CTU, including Engineering, Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Architecture, and Humanities. Applicants must be early-career researchers (Ph.D. awarded no more than 8 years prior to the deadline) with substantial international experience (Ph.D.
Dear colleagues,
A few years ago, I shared here a short note on inflation-induced twist in geometrically incompatible isotropic tubes, exploring how layered cylindrical structures can develop torsion under pressure without externally applied torque:

I am pleased to share that this line of thinking has now evolved into a published study in npj Regenerative Medicine:
