Dear Colleagues,
I would like to bring to your notice the mini-symposium on "Multi-scale modeling in contact mechanics" at the 11th US National Congress on Computational Mechanics (http://usnccm.org/). The conference will be held at Minneapolis, Minnesota from July 25-29, 2011.
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to bring to your notice the mini-symposium on "Emerging computational methods for transient non-linear problems with multiple temporal scales" at the 11th US National Congress on Computational Mechanics (http://usnccm.org/). The conference will be held at Minneapolis, Minnesota from July 25-29, 2011.
We have carried out systematic experimental tests to evaluate the bonding strength and fracture toughness of adhesive joints. Our work has been published in Journal of Adhesion as one among the collection of papers honoring Prof. David Dillard for receiving the Adhesion Society Award for Excellence in Adhesion Science sponsored by 3M.
A dielectric elastomer is capable of largevoltage-induced deformation, particularly when the voltage is applied on theverge of snap-through instability. Thispaper describes a model to show that the snap-through instability is markedlyaffected by both the extension limit of polymer chains and the polarizationsaturation of dipoles. The model mayguide the search for high-performance dielectric elastomer transducers.

Themes covered include
The topic of research must include a biological surface as part of the interface (eg articular cartilage, skin), have a direct impact on biological function (eg prosthetic joints, dental implants), or involve the implementation of natural lubrication in man-made systems (biomimetics).
