Morphing matter includes biological and engineering materials and structures with dynamic and tunable properties such as shape, color, stiffness, texture, and density. Examples include pinecones that open when dried and close when wet, octopus that camouflages by changing body shapes, textures and colors, food that changes shapes during cooking, and smart windows that dynamically tune color and surface roughness.
Dear iMechanica community,
I would like to share with you the publication of our paper Identifying elastic wave polarization and bandgaps in periodic solid media, in the International Journal of Mechanical Sciences.
Title: Identifying elastic wave polarization and bandgaps in periodic solid media
Authors: Maria Carrillo-Munoz and Bhisham Sharma
The Computational Mechanics and Methods (CM3) Group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kentucky is seeking highly self-motivated individuals who have great interest in the broad research area of computational solid mechanics and methods. Interested individuals should send a detailed CV and both undergraduate and graduate transcripts to Dr. Chen at hailong.chen [at] uky.edu (hailong[dot]chen[at]uky[dot]edu)
Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoc position in the area of advanced materials for small modular nuclear reactors. This position is a full-time position at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and the selected applicant can start effective immediately. In addition, this position is extendable for another year, depending on the availability of funds and the applicant’s performance.
cdmHUB invites you to attend the Global Composites Experts Webinar Series.
