Is my work worth PhD ?

Submitted by kirthanlj on

I am pursuing my phD in one of the universities in india in fracture mechanics. I have completed all the formalities of my university before submitting the final thesis report like completing the course work examinations and comprehensive vivavoce. My work is related to accurate stress intensity factor determination at the crack tip through FEA approach for a mixed mode crack propagation.I have taken a new methodology suggested in one of the old journal papers in FEM and I have used the formulae mentioned in that paper to extract the SIF results.

Mechanics for soft machines

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

I gave a seminar at Xian Jiaotong University on 27 October 2009.  I recently found the video of the seminar online.  The seminar was in Chinese, but the slides were in English.

If the subject interests you, the following papers will lead you to the literature.

implicit and explicit for dynamic analysis

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Can anyone please explain the difference between implicit and explicit method with regard to dynamic analysis?

I mean the procedurres to determine the response where in the equations of mottion are uncoupled or non linear dyn amic analysis is to be carried out?

Central difference is an explicit and neumann methos is an implicit method.

It was beautifully explained by Prof.Louis for sttaic non linear analysis in an earlier post and touched by Peymann too for dynamic analysis.A detailed explanation will eb very useful.

Please help

PhD and Post-doctoral Associate Positions Available at Rice University

Submitted by Rouzbeh1 on

Ph.D and postdoctoral associate positions are available at Rice University in the broad area of atomistic, molecular and multiscale modeling of cement-based materials. The projects include carrying out bottom-up atomistic and microtexture predictive simulations. Computational techniques will be integrated to approaches from statistical mechanics and physical chemistry to provide quantitative predictions of properties of cementitious materials across different time- and length-scales. The research will be carried out at Rice University’s Laboratory for Multiscale
Materials Modeling.

PhD STUDENTSHIPS FLUID STRUCTURE INTERACTION

Submitted by fhuera on

The Fluid-Structure Interactions Lab (LIFE) (http://www.etseq.urv.es/life/) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) (www.urv.cat) in Tarragona (Spain), is looking for an enthusiastic research student with a strong interest in fluid dynamics to apply for one of the FI 2012 grants given by the Catalan Government. Successful candidates will join a small but very active multidisciplinary team, working in fluid dynamics and fluid-structure interaction problems.
