Hello All,
Gianmarco Manzini (LANL) and I are teaching a short course entitled: "Virtual Element Method in Solid and Fluid Mechanics" at USNCCM17 in Albuquerque, which will be held on Sunday, July 23rd, 2023. If you plan to be at the conference in-person, then do consider attending the short course. A summary of the course follows:
Extreme Mechanics Letters (EML) is very pleased to announce the appointments of the following individuals as Special EML Editors:
Zheng Jia, Zhejiang University (zheng.jia [at] zju.edu.cn): Special EML Editor for EML Webinars – Young Researchers Forum
Mingchao Liu, University of Birmingham (m.liu.2 [at] bham.ac.uk): Special EML Editor for Social Media Engagement
About this position: The Computational Soft Matter Laboratory (https://farokhirad.com), within the Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://mie.njit.edu/) at the New Jersey Institute of technology (NJIT), is currently offering a Ph.D. position available for Spring/Fall 2024. The successful candidate will carry out computational research focusing on the interaction of flexible nanomaterials with biological cell membranes.
Here is an open (fully funded) PhD position starting next fall at INSA de Lyon. With Paul Sotta and Renaud Rinaldi, we are looking for candidates eager to understand and unveil the physical origin of strain-hardening mechanism in glassy polymers.
=> so if you want to know more about the subject or are interested by the topic, don't hesitate to apply! ;-)
One MS or PhD student is sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. This research is focused on conducting novel mechanical experiments with advanced metrology. This research is primarily experimental and will integrate with the work of a postdoc working on computational methods to distill the multitudes of data into information that practicing engineers rely on. Students must have prior hands on experience to be considered (any prior experience is OK, whether it be in a lab, garage, shop, etc.).
One postdoc is sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. This research is focused on extracting yield surfaces from data rich full-field experimental information by solving an inverse problem. This research will be primarily computational and will integrate closely with a graduate student conducting experiments. Applicants with relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
One PhD student is sought to fill an opening in the Gross Materials Lab (group website: andrewjgross.com) at the University of South Carolina. This research is focused on developing predictive models for how damage forms in carbon/carbon composites during manufacturing. This research will be primarily computational and provide opportunities to work closely with a team of researchers that are conducting experiments. Students must be capable coders and a US citizen to be considered.
