Extreme Mechanics Letters (EML) Special Issue: Call for Paper
Machine Learning and Mechanics
Over the past decade, there has been a growing interest in applying machine learning techniques to problems in mechanics. From material design optimization, manufacturing, to multiscale modelling, to real time prediction and autonomy, data mining and analysis, machine learning techniques have had a massive impact in the field.
The Computational Mechanics and Methods (CM3) Group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kentucky is seeking highly self-motivated individuals who have great interest in the broad research areas of computational solid mechanics and methods. Interested individuals should send a detailed CV and both undergraduate and graduate transcripts to Dr. Chen at hailong.chen [at] uky.edu (hailong[dot]chen[at]uky[dot]edu)
One PhD position is available for Fall 2024 at McGill University in collaboration between Advanced Multifunctional and Multiphysics Metamaterials Lab (Department of Bioresource Engineering) and Mine Multiphysics Lab (Department of Mining and Materials Engineering). The research topic is on the area of Architected Mechanical Metamaterials for energy and electronics applications.
With Marek Tyburec, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow interested in solving structural topology optimization problems using polynomial programming techniques. Full details of the position are available at https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/118834, and the call closes on 30 November 2023.
The Cambridge Solid Mechanics Group are starting a new project with the aim to transform the design of engineering components from one based on selecting a best single material to one in which material properties and compositions are treated as continuous, spatially varying quantities.
