Several PhD student positions available at the MAE department of University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL

Submitted by Yuanli Bai on

There are several PhD student positions available immediately at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Students will work on a recent DOE funded project on Cu(Al)/CNT metallic matrix nano composites. Students with background in solid mechanics, finite element analysis, or nano material processing are particularly encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please send your resume and representative publications (if have) to Dr. Yuanli Bai (bai [at] ucf.edu) or Dr. Quanfang Chen (Quanfang.chen [at] ucf.edu). The openings are for either Spring 2017 or Fall 2017. Excellent candidates can also be nominated to apply for fellowships of university level.

The 3rd Sandia Fracture Challenge is here!

Submitted by Sharlotte Kramer on

The third Sandia Fracture Challenge is here!  We invite to you participate in this next installment of our collaborative, blind assessment of predictions of ductile fracture.  For the third SFC, we wanted to challenge the computational mechanics community to predict ductile fracture in an additively manufactured structure.

Contact stiffness estimation based on structural frequency response

Submitted by xwling on

If you work on contact mechanics, or have difficulty get your FEA model converge due to contact, you may find it beneficial reading my patent on "Contact stiffness estimation based on structural frequency response". It forms a first ever rational method to estimate the contact stiffness, and provides a practical technical solution to a real challenge in contact mechanics. For industrial FEA developers or users, please contact me for the right to commercialize or implement it. Thank you!

PhD opening in computational mechanics at EPFL

Submitted by BriceLecampion on

I have a PhD opening in my group to start in 2017 on the multiscale modeling of fluid driven fracture propagation.

Interested individuals should contact me, and submit in parallel an application to EPFL doctoral school in mechanics

(see http://phd.epfl.ch/edme for more details about the mechanics PhD program at EPFL and the application process).

A brief description of the topic can be found in attached file.
