Due to their large deformation capability, electroactive polymers are promising materials for several engineering applications. They can be used, for example, as actuators and sensors in artificial muscles, biomedical devices, microrobots, pumps, valves, etc. The research in this emerging field focuses in the multiphysics modeling of electroactive polymers and combines many aspects of structural mechanics, composite materials (for modeling composite electroactive polymers), and failure mechanisms of structural components and materials.

Element sulfur in nature is an insulating solid. While it has been tested that one-dimensional sulfur chain is metallic and conducting, the investigation on two-dimensional sulfur remains elusive. We report that molybdenum disulfide layers are able to serve as the nanotemplate to facilitate the formation of two-dimensional sulfur.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks candidates for faculty positions starting July 2018 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment will be considered. Our department is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society.
We are looking for Postdoctoral Fellows with computational mechanics background specializing in one or more of these areas: solid mechanics, wave-structure interaction, fatigue and corrosion induced structural damage.
Please check the attached flyer for details or visit http://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&R…
Thanks, Saikat Dey
One postdoctoral fellow position in solid mechanics/biomechanics at Dartmouth is immediately available in the Chen group at Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth (http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/people/faculty/zi-chen/). The subjects of research include, but arre not limited to, cancer cell migration, mechanics of morphogenesis in embryos or plants, and/or bioinspired robots.
Summary
This studentship is being jointly offered by the University of Oxford and Rolls Royce plc under the EPSRC Industrial CASE award scheme.
The research will be focused on the development of novel numerical modelling methodologies for simulation of the response of titanium alloys to impact loading, as a part of a long term collaboration with designers of large gas turbine engines for civil aviation.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut is growing the faculty to develop existing strengths of the department and expand in exciting new directions. This year, the department invites applications for multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty positions focused on developing innovative material systems, mathematical and computer modeling, as well as analysis and fabrication approaches in support of advanced and digital manufacturing, and with a strong emphasis on scientific rigor.
