Crystal-inspired architected materials: Nature 565 (2019) & 3-year postdoc position at Imperial College London
We recently presented an original research that uses 3d printing to realise the mimicry of the microstructure observed in crystalline metals to employ crystals’ hardening mechanisms to develop robust and damage-tolerant architected materials (Nature 2019; 565:305 - https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0850-3).

Torso Model Generation for Simulating Pacemaker Performance
MicroPort develop lifesaving medical products for patients around the world. One of MicroPort’s specialties is in manufacturing cardiac rhythm management devices (CRM) for treating cardiac rhythm disorders and heart failures. The company use Synopsys Simpleware software to model complex pacemaker geometries to better understand patient therapies for conditions such as bradycardia and tachycardia.

Strong Adhesion in 3D Printing of Soft Materials
(Yang et al Adv. Funct. Mater. 2019, 1901721). In our new paper, strong adhesion is achieved in integrated structures of a hydrogel and an elastomer extrusion-printed in arbitrary sequence.
Parameters controlling the strength of stochastic fibrous materials
Many materials of everyday use are fibrous and their strength is important in most applications. In this work we study the dependence of the strength of random fiber networks on structural parameters such as the network density, cross-link density, fiber tortuosity, and the strength of the inter-fiber cross-links. Athermal networks of cellular and fibrous type are considered. We conclude that the network strength scales linearly with the cross-link number density and with the cross-link strength for a broad range of network parameters, and for both types of networks considered.
